Finance Council
Advisory council to the Pastor
The Finance Council is a group of parishioners who advise the pastor on the financial regiments, needs, and situations of the parish.
What Our Group Does:
- Makes revenue projections as to how much money will be available to cover our parishes' labor, maintenance, and spiritual enrichment needs.
- Oversees the preparation of our parishes' annual financial budget and reviews periodic financial reports including income statements and comparisons to the budget. Also assists in communicating the annual financial report to the parish community.
- Provides advice on managing parish funds, banking arrangements, and financial policies. Also advises on capital expenditures for facilities and helps plan for the maintenance and repair of parish property and equipment.
- Serves as an advisory board to the pastor on all significant financial decisions and long-range financial planning. While the pastor is ultimately responsible for financial decisions, the parish council's advice is expected to be given serious consideration.
- Promotes internal controls and accountability of all parish contributions by conducting surprise audits of anyone who comes into contact with cash donations.
When Do We Meet:
Meetings are held in the evening once every other month and last approximately 90 minutes. Meetings follow a pre-determined schedule. Minutes are taken by the church secretary and are kept on file for inspection by Diocese Financial Auditors.
